Caitlyn Taylor:
Creator, Pottery Apprentice, Website Designer, Entreprenuer
When I was 22 years old, I graduated from Troy University in Troy, AL with a bachelors degree in psychology in the spring of 2016. I started graduate school to become a counselor in the following fall, but quickly found that something else was calling me. I longed to find professional fulfillment in a more creative and adventurous way. I spent the next 2-3 years working odd jobs in South Georgia and managing different businesses until I met a man named Marty Haythorn. He opened my eyes to the idea of running a creative business as my main job...and not just as a side hustle. Now, not only have I learned skills in pottery making, but I've also been able to peek into the lifestyle and management of a full-time artist. This was a profession i thought went right along with "Unicorn groomer" and "Flying Pig trainer." I was thrilled to absorb any knowledge I could from Marty and hopefully help him with his own artistic endeavors as well.
I was most interested in how well Marty seemed to balance everything in his life. So, I decided to start shadowing him. Marty quickly became a good friend and a valued mentor. I now consider Marty a part of my family and I couldn't be more thankful for his friendship and his advice over the years. He has a heart bigger than anyone I know for all kinds of people and living creatures and he has a huge passion for the artistic community. He has certainly made a positive impact on my life and my daughter's, as well as his whole community in southern Georgia.

Creativity has always been a part of who I am. From a young age, I have had my hands in many different creative projects and outlets. When I was 6 years old, I began writing stories, poetry, and songs as well as drawing, singing, and dancing. I wasn't able to do much, but I was very resourceful with what I had growing up. When I began high school I joined the drama club, dance team, yearbook club, and entered several writing competitions. By my senior year I became president of each of these clubs and had won several awards in various categories.
It became my mission after high school to better understand what I wanted to choose to dive into. I knew that I enjoyed helping others with my creative talents and I knew I wanted to better understand the way the human mind worked and how I could be of good use to helping the world to be a happier place. So, I decided to get a bachelors degree in Psychology from Troy University. Upon completing my degree, I realized that I wasn't only a creative and idealistic individual. I also had a knack for planning, nurturing, organizing, analyzing, and communicating as well. These realizations and a general curiosity directed me toward being Marty's pottery apprentice, helping him with his business, designing websites for him and others, starting a jewelry business, designing my own t-shirts, and finally, developing a green thumb and growing an immense potted garden.
I see an opportunity to nourish my own creativity in every aspect of my life and I love to share that joy with everyone I can. I hope that I am an example that creativity is meant to be explored. It is in each and every human and it is not meant to be put in a box. And, I hope that I am proof that it can be very fulfilling and beautiful to not have to choose one outlet, one career, or one aspect of yourself to cultivate. As humans, we are a kaleidoscope of attributes and talents and if we are brave enough and curious enough to explore them all, we will ultimately find our true selves.
